Frequently Asked Questions (See answers below): FAQ Answers:
  • "My student logged into and started lessons on my account instead of his/hers. What should I do?"
If it's still early (meaning your student only did lesson 1 or 2), the best thing to do is to have him/her login to his/her account and start over. He/she can just click "FINAL" on the 1st assignment and put a note in the feedback about having completed the lesson already.

The important thing is to "REGISTER A CHILD" account in his/her name from your My Home Page (accessible by logging in above using your email).

  • "Does my student have to start on the lessons at the appointed time? Are the lessons live?"
No...your student can start on his/her schedule and proceeed on his/her schedule. I designed the class to be basically one lesson per day (approximately 15-20 minutes all in with video, lesson, etc), and so it can be completed in approximately 3 weeks (of weekdays). We have some students who knock out 5 lessons in a day and we have some that work on one lesson a week.

  • "Will my student get feedback on his/her lessons?"
Your student gets feedback in many ways. If he/she has a problem during the lesson, he/she can submit the code for debugging and get solutions from me and the other students. We are also launching a certification process whereby the student can request to have each lesson/assignment reviewed and certified.

  • "Can parents take lessons along with kids?"
Absolutely. You have a student record set up for you when you register. Then register your children from your "My Home Page" and each of you should log in and do the lessons. (Unless you just want to sit and take the lessons alongside the kids, in which case you can just login and use one account).

  • "What ages is this class for?"
The oldest student that I have had (that I know about) was 70 but the class was built for my 10 year old daughter and is targeted for between 10 - 19. Some kids less than 10 can get confused but if you start the class with them and help them through the interface, they may be ok (depending on their tech savvy). The class is a beginner's class, an introduction to HTML so students who have experience with HTML will likely feel like hte pace is too slow.

  • "I am/my student is having problems with his/her code. What should I/they do?"
If you're having problems with the code in a lesson/assignment, click the "Debug Your Code" button and specify the problem. That gives me (and the other students) access to the code and we can offer solutions. If you're having problems logging in or web site errors, please email me ASAP and I'll try to fix.

  • "Do I need to use a Mac/PC/Any specific browser?"
The lessons should work on all browsers and regardless of computer operating system (Mac/PC). There are several lessons involving how to embed video that require a workaround on Safari/Chrome browswers because of the way that our Code Sandbox is set up, but the instructions specify what to do.

  • "Do you teach any advanced classes/what comes next?"
After the student completes HTML 101, he/she can sign up for our Young Programmers Club and the Young Programmers Classes for JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets, and HTML 5. I also teach a class on...how to create an online class. All available after the student completes HTML 101.
